Nightlife in Reykjavík

Reykjavik is a bit famous for its nightlife, and it delivers. During winter, something needs to be done to push past all of the darkness. In the summer, the almost 24 hours of daylight makes for a bit of a party scene.

Here are a few of our favorites:

Kex Hostel – Yes again, it is a hostel, but don’t let that put you off. Its lively bar and young hip crowd make for a great vibe. Closes at midnight. Skúlagata 28.

Cafe Rosenberg has live music nightly. Klapparstígur 27.

Dolly and Bakkus for dancing, cold beer and a young crowd. Hafnarstræti 4.

Prikid is a cafe that turns into a hip hop club with a live DJ most nights. Bankastræti 12.

An alternative to Prikid, Kaffibarinn also has live DJ’s and a cool vibe. Bergstaðastraæti 1. If you fancy being up late to party, check out B5 (Bankastræti 5), Austur (Austurstræti 7), Loftið (Austurstræti 9) and for rock and roll, Bar 11 (Hverfisgötu 18). All are open until 5 AM, and the party only gets started around 2.

NOTE: If out late in Reykjavik, while the locals are quite friendly, exercise caution as some inebriated passersby can cause some trouble, especially when the bars let out.
