Bæjarins Beztu
The best hot dog in town (they say the world). We tend to agree. If you are looking for a late night snack or a quick lunch, this Icelandic right of passage will hit the spot.
Tryggvagata, near Kolaportið flea market, 101 Reykjavik.

Svarta kaffið
Great for lunch. This cave-like cafe serves up piping hot homemade soup in bread bowls. The best cold day lunch in Reykjavik. Finish it off with a fantastic coffee and apple cake. YUM.

Kex Hostel
Don´t let the name fool you. This is a hip and nicely decorated eatery with a great bar. A favorite of many locals for an afternoon beer. Last time we checked they were serving the best burger in town, again.
Open daily 8:0am – 10:00pm
Skúlagata 28, 101 Reykjavík
Saegreifinn (The Sea Baron)
Two words: Lobster Soup. Try it. Have you left yet? Why not? Get going. Founded by a retired fisherman and former Coast Guard chef (now deceased and dearly missed), this is a bit of a local legend. No frills, but comfortable with a great local vibe.

Cafe Loki
If you are looking to try some Icelandic delicacies and oddities in an informal environment, Loki is the spot. Serving up both regular food as well as a range of local grub (rotten shark, anyone?) you have the opportunity to try without investing too much. I recommend the Icelandic Tough Guy, which comes with dried shark, fish, schnapps and local rye bread.
